Louetlang’s Summer Update 🏖️ |
With the first half of 2025 behind us, we at Louetlang are taking a moment to reset, enjoying the summer in our own unique ways.
Some of our team members are spending time with family, while others are out in nature or traveling abroad, discovering new cultures. At the same time, there are those who have stayed behind, quietly keeping Louetlang’s daily operations running. Thanks to every team member doing their part—wherever they are—we continue moving forward together.
After this brief break, we at Louetlang will come together once again, united in our mission to share K-Food with the world.

Palm Oil & EU Trade: Key Changes You Need to Know 🔍 |
The EU is tightening its regulations on palm oil. Starting December 2025 for large companies and June 2026 for SMEs, products containing palm oil must meet three key requirements to enter the EU market.
First, proof of zero deforestation must be provided. Palm oil used cannot come from land deforested after December 31, 2020. Second, submit a Due Diligence Statement (DDS) via the EU TRACES system, including GPS coordinates of the farms (up to 6 decimal places), legality checks, and risk assessments. Third, full traceability is required—even for indirect ingredients like shortening, blended sauces, or palm-based emulsifiers in cosmetics.
Common mistakes include submitting only an RSPO certificate without GPS data, or failing to trace or report indirect ingredients. Lack of preparation could lead to customs delays or product rejections—so make sure to check everything carefully in advance. |

Italy’s Breaking Up with Bread? 🍞 |
Italy’s dining table is evolving. Traditional bread is stepping aside as crackers, wraps, and breadsticks take center stage. Unlike freshly baked loaves that spoil quickly, these alternatives offer longer shelf life, portability, and quick prep — all aligning with modern lifestyles.
Nearly half of Italian shoppers prioritize natural ingredients, and 59% want meals they can prepare in a snap. Enter the new wave: plant-based recipes, superfood add-ins, gut-friendly benefits, and air fryer–ready formats. Think chia-seed crackers, lentil wraps in meal kits, and mini pizza bases made for speed.
Bread-free dining is no longer a compromise — it’s a trend with taste, health, and convenience on its side, ready to roll across Europe. |

Cheese over Tomatoes? Korea’s “Hedging Food” Trend🍽️ |
Climate change is shaking up dining tables around the world — and Korea is no exception.
Once known for its apple production, the southern region of Gyeongbuk is experiencing a northward shift of its apple orchards to Gangwon, while tangerines, once exclusive to Jeju Island, are now being cultivated inland. As growing conditions shift and ingredient supplies become unstable, the food industry is responding with a strategy known as “hedging food.”
When tomatoes became scarce, for example, Lotteria introduced a cheese-focused Mozzarella Burger, and McDonald’s responded with a meatier patty option. These instances illustrate how brands are launching new offerings by replacing unstable ingredients with alternatives.
At the same time, there's growing interest in developing new protein sources such as plant-based meat and insect protein, as well as adopting food tech solutions like smart farms to improve production resilience.
These shifts go beyond temporary fixes — they reflect a broader industry transformation toward building a sustainable food ecosystem in an era of climate crisis. |

This Summer’s Hit Flavor? Melon, Loved by Gen Z 🍈
This summer, the Korean food and beverage market is being swept by the refreshing sweetness of melon-flavored products. From snacks and milk to drinks, jellies, and ice cream, melon has made its way into a wide range of items, especially appealing to Gen Z consumers.
Notable examples include Nongshim’s Melon Kick, Seoul Milk’s Melon Milk, Gongcha’s Melon Melon Milk Tea, and Baskin-Robbins’ seasonal melon bingsu. Melon’s subtle aroma and gentle sweetness make it easy to enjoy without being overwhelming, which has contributed to its broad popularity. In particular, Melon Kick sold 1.44 million bags in its first week, quickly becoming a social media sensation.
Creative melon recipes and user content have further fueled the trend. More than just a seasonal flavor, melon is now rising as a trendy, Gen Z-focused taste in Korea’s food scene. |

Catch Louetlang Dumplings in the Netherlands! 🇳🇱 |
Louetlang is getting an early start this summer to prepare for the upcoming winter season.
Once again, we’ll be partnering with Amazing Oriental, a leading Asian market chain in the Netherlands. Most of their store staff are from Chinese communities and are known for their deep knowledge and attention to detail when it comes to product quality and pricing.
Following last year’s success, we’ve agreed to join forces again for this winter’s Hot Pot Event. Demand for hot pot-related items typically spikes during the season, and given the great response to our dumplings last year, we’re confident we can build on that momentum.
We’re working hard to deliver an even more delicious and enjoyable experience to local customers—thank you for your continued interest and support!
