This year marks a significant milestone for Lou et Lang as we introduce our frozen poultry products to the European market for the first time. With the recent approval for exporting heat-processed poultry from Korea to the EU, Lou et Lang is leading the charge by launching frozen gyoza mandu and Korean fried chicken in collaboration with Carrefour, France’s leading retailer. 🥟
This launch has been made possible through collaborations with top domestic manufacturers, and our first shipments are set to commence in August 2024. Through this European expansion, Lou et Lang aims to further showcase the appeal of K-Food and strengthen our position in the global market.

Successful Promotion of allgroo Mandu in Malaysia |

Throughout August, Lou et Lang successfully conducted a promotional event for allgroo mandu at major Malaysian stores including Village Grocer, Aeon, and Maxvalu. The promotion featured four varieties of allgroo mandu (Chive, Kimchi, Japchae, and Vegetable) and took place on alternate weekends from August 2nd to August 18th. The event was held across a total of nine locations: six Village Grocer stores, one TFM Pavilion store, one Aeon Puchong store, and one Maxvalu store.
This promotion provided a valuable opportunity to introduce local consumers to the diverse flavors of Korean mandu and increase product awareness. Lou et Lang will continue to enhance the global recognition of Korean food through various promotional activities in the future.💪

The European Union (EU) is reinforcing regulations to meet its 2050 net-zero emissions target. The EU Parliament recently updated packaging and waste regulations, effective from April 2024. By 2030, all packaging must support reuse and recycling. Key changes include enhanced recyclability, restrictions on heavy metals, bans on excessive packaging, and standardized labeling. Plastic in tea bags is now prohibited, and the Tethered Cap regulation, requiring caps to stay attached to beverage containers, begins in July 2024.
Major companies are boosting eco-friendly marketing in response. Exporters should develop compliant packaging, and Lou et Lang plans to monitor local rules and use aT’s consulting services for support. |

With its loose starch structure, powdered rice is perfect for noodles, baking, and pastries, emerging as a promising wheat flour alternative. The government is backing these developments to manage rice surpluses and reduce reliance on imported wheat.
Key products include CJ CheilJedang’s ‘Bibigo Our Rice Dumplings,’ Nongshim’s ‘Spicy Braised Chicken Noodles,’ Harim’s children’s ramen, and London Bagel’s red bean bagel. Sajo DongA One has released pancake and frying mixes, Shinsegae Food offers plant-based drinks, and Samyang Foods is working on frozen dumplings and chicken.
The Ministry of Agriculture is supporting over 30 companies with a commercialization package and expanding cultivation and production for powdered rice. These products are gaining traction with health-conscious consumers and are set to become a major trend in Korea’s food industry. |

Chuseok: A Bountiful and Warm Korean Holiday 🌝 |

In September, with its autumnal charm, one of Korea’s biggest holidays, Chuseok, is approaching. Chuseok, also known as Korean Thanksgiving, is a time for families to come together, express gratitude for the year's harvest, and honor their ancestors. This year, Chuseok will be celebrated from September 16 to September 18, 2024.
Chuseok falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month. During Chuseok, families dress in hanbok (traditional Korean attire) and visit the graves of their ancestors to pay their respects. They also enjoy traditional games such as Ganggangsullae. Additionally, families make and share Songpyeon (rice cakes), which helps strengthen family bonds and enhances the festive atmosphere of this rich holiday. |

Here are some representative Korean dishes for Chuseok:
- 송편 (Songpyeon): Half-moon-shaped rice cakes filled with ingredients such as sesame seeds, red beans, and chestnuts, and coated with sesame oil.
- 잡채 (Japchae): Stir-fried noodles with a mix of vegetables and meat, seasoned with soy sauce and sesame oil, known for its delightful texture and rich flavor.
- 전 (Jeon): A variety of pan-fried dishes made from ingredients like minced meat, zucchini, and pollock, which are essential for Chuseok feasts.
